If you’re looking for a quick, easy, crispy tofu recipe you’ve landed on the right page. Even if not – you’ve still landed on the right page lol… let me tell you why.
When I first went plant-based for weight loss I had no idea how I would do it because I thought I hated tofu!
Every time I had it prior when I tried to go vegetarian or vegan before, it was always this too-soft texture, completely void of flavor, and made me feel nothing short of regret and disappointment.
So you can imagine how shocked I was to discover that tofu can actually be delicious! Not just tolerable… delicious, I say!
And I want to share my favorite low-calorie crispy tofu recipe here with you!
Crispy Tofu Recipe Ingredients
The best thing about this tofu recipe is that it takes very few ingredients – most of which you have at home.
- 2 ¾ cup (350g) firm tofu
- 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp. tamari or soy sauce
- 1 tsp. favorite seasoning (salt, pepper, cumin and paprika are good choices)
- 1 tbsp. corn-starch or tapioca starch
Low-Calorie Crispy Tofu Instructions
One of the most important things for making great tofu is pressing the heck out of it!
If you don’t have a tofu press, you can put the tofu on a plate, cover it with a towel, then put books or other heavy objects on top to squeeze out the water.
But a tofu press will save you so much time and energy over the years!
Here’s what to do:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C ) and line a large baking tray with baking paper.
- Drain the tofu and gently squeeze out the excess water.
- Wrap it around in a cloth and place something heavy over the top to further drain.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Slice or cube the tofu into bite-size pieces and place in a bowl.
- Drizzle with the olive oil and soy sauce.
- Season with your favorite spices and toss to combine.
- Sprinkle the starch over the tofu, and toss them again until evenly coated.
- Transfer the tofu onto the prepared baking sheet and arrange in one layer.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway, until the tofu golden on the edges.
Easy Low-Cal Crispy Tofu Nutrition Facts
This tofu is such a main staple of my plant-based diet! My husband and I literally press out four blocks of tofu every Sunday and have them to cook up during the week.
The great thing about this is that even if you still eat animal products, substituting one or two meals a week with a tofu recipe like this is a great way to gradually transition to eating more plants.
And that will help you lose weight so much faster!

Alternate Cooking Methods For Crispy Tofu
If you don’t want to fuss with the oven, I’ve got great news!
You can make this crispy tofu in an air fryer or even in a frying pan!
For the air fryer (which is great because you don’t need oil) – just drop the tofu into your air fryer and set it to 350°F for 20 minutes. Depending on your fryer you might want to go a little longer.
For the skillet, make sure you use a non-stick frying pan (I LOVE the Tfal brand!) Then just fry it up until it’s as crispy as you’d like on all sides!
It’s so simple.
Really, the main thing to do is make sure you press the water out. That’s how you’ll get it to really taste the way you want!
I hope you enjoy this recipe!
Play around with it – add different seasonings, try different sauces and dressings, and put the tofu in different recipes (salads, bowls and wraps are excellent choices.)
Let me know how it goes!
